      1. Hello back, thank you very much and please, take something to eat when you lock the door… About the recipes: some are from the cookbooks, others from blogs, or family recipes, some are totally self-made, accidents or just my quick lunch things. Mainly I am trying to have a record of what I cooked and how I did it so that I do not have to spend weeks again to search for a clipping that has disappeared somewhere. As you are a fellow accumulator (Good Granny cookbook, me too!) you might have similar experiences. Do you have a favourite? N.

      2. I’m beginning to find that yes. When I started the New Recipe Night thing it was to use the books, stop relying on ready-made food from the supermarket, and teach myself how to cook. I’ve sometimes made meals that I think need changes, and I’ll definitely be putting those changes up on here so I can remember them! At the moment my favourite cookbook is Cupboard Love by Tom Norrington-Davies, everything us quick to make with only a few ingredients – ideal for after work! What’s your favourite? S

      3. I think that is a very good thing. It is so much better to cook yourself, you know what is in it, where it comes from and I am not going all River Cottage here (which we loved at the beginning and I am still watching the old ones) but I think the main point is: why eat strange things and let’s learn something. I so agree, I have turned our flat upside down in search for a recipe and a scrap of paper where I scribbled down notes of my changes and I rekindled the blog plans to avoid these in the future. Have not found it so far… I do not know the book, will google it soon, though. My favourites at the moment are: The Homesick Texan which caters to our personal California & Mexican food homesickness and Liza has a really, really nice blog, too. I am browsing through some books again: Claudia Roden, Diana Henry, Valentine Warner (regular cooking day with my cousin and a vegetarian friend coming up). N.

  3. I have a small collection of cookbooks. I would have more, but a small space allows only so much. I recently ordered two of the Gooseberry Cookbooks, which I am really enjoying. Just received them and can’t wait to try more of the recipes. I love books. There is something about having that actual cookbook to cook from, rather than just a recipe that was googled.

    1. Ooo I’ve not seen the gooseberry books – I’ll have a look when I’m next in Foyles 😀 I keep buying books if I see them cheap, but there’s loads I’ve not used yet – this year its my mission though. I don’t get on too well with googled recipes – especially after the time I stuck my hands to the worktop with stollen dough and had to try and unlock the ipad with my nose to see if I was ever likely to be unstuck if I kept on kneading… Books all the way!

    1. Aww thank you! There’s been a few weeks when it’s been more “Wow! That’s Horrible!!” But it’s been brilliant fun trying all these new meals, glad to know you’re enjoying it 🙂 🙂

    1. Aww thankyou! I’ve been working in better pictures – they were a bit basic before, but as I make an older recipe again I’m taking new pictures! I love Nigella – she and Tom Norrington-Davies have become my kitchen heroes!

  4. I love the idea of this blog! I worked through a good bit of Nigella’s ‘Kitchen’ cookbook last year (it was great) and then have been working my way through (and blogging about) Marcella Hazan’s ‘Essentials of Classic Italian Cooking’. I have become quite addicted to trying new recipes – but not as adventurously as you! I tend to find a book that works and then stick with it (for a long time).

    1. Aww thank you – it’s been great fun trying all the different recipes – even better finding ones I like!! I was going to try doing one book at a time but I couldn’t decide which one! Kitchen is a great book, as is Express – I’ll have to check it out, I love italian food!! 🙂 🙂

      1. It is hard to get into. Do try the Damp Apple and Almond Cake! I’ve cooked it several times for larger dinner gatherings. It’s dairy and gluten free (not necessary for me – but good when there is a big group coming with undetermined intolerances). It has had many a guest taking a photo of the recipe page to take home. I can also highly recommend the Herbed Bulgar Wheat and Nut Salad, and the Chocolate Espresso Cake.
